You will explore the epic desert landscape in a small group.  Bring your camera or cellphone, or just come for the experience.  

Our guide, and professional photographer, Shelly Wayne, will lead you off the beaten path to her favorite locations.  You will receive as much or as little photography help as you like.

Dates are chosen based on the New Moon cycle for best possible Milky Way photography.  Locations aside from White Pocket (that is our overnight location), will be chosen unique to each workshop based on weather, Milky Way alignment & accessibility.  Rest assured, each Desert Expedition will have epic locations that will not disappoint.  

  • Remote locations require access in high clearance 4×4 (provided) on rough roads.  Be prepared for some bumps!
  • Hiking is Easy and accessible for those able to walk short distances on uneven ground.  Elevation gains are minimal.  

August has been scheduled for the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower where we will camp overnight at White Pocket to watch the show!

Important Info
  • We provide 4WD transport to and from all locations.  
  • You’ll need to sign a hiking waiver after booking this tour.
  • Guests are responsible for packing all medications and alerting the guide to any medical conditions.  

 

GROUP CONTINUITY & SAFETY / PROTECTING OUR RESOURCES

  • All guests must stay with the group and guide at all times.
  • Guests will follow Leave No Trace etiquette.  Littering and disrespect of the landscape will NOT be tolerated. 
  • Do not climb or hike up any steep rock faces or areas indicated as “off limits” by your guide.

 

What to Pack?

  • Camera or cellphone 
  • Tripod (with L-bracket)
  • Wide angle lens with f/2.8 capability for night sky shooting
  • 24-70mm lens to telephoto.
  • Extra Batteries / SD cards.
  • Headlamp w/ extra batteries.  
  • Portable cellphone/device charger.
  • Comfortable hiking shoes:  This tour requires easy to moderate hiking abilities.  If you are a slow hiker, NO problem!
  • Backpack to carry camera gear and snacks/water.
  • Clothing for warm temperatures, cool nights & inclement weather (rain).
  • Medications (inhalers, insulin, heart meds, epi-pen, etc)!
  • Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Hat, etc.  We will be in the desert, so pack accordingly!  I recommend long sleeve rash guard layers, long hiking pants, and shorts.  
  • Sense of Adventure!!
